Natural Remedies To Fight Dandruff

Do you find yourself conscious at work or social events due to a flaky scalp? Well, it’s embarrassing, to say the least, and we’re all on board with that. An itchy and flaky scalp sure is a turn-off, but thankfully, it doesn’t need any doctor’s attention, well at least in most cases. Below is a list of natural remedies to fight dandruff, and all we need is readily available products from your house.

Apple cider vinegar
ACV comes in handy for so many reasons around the house, and it’s one of the best remedies for dandruff too. The technique to follow with this remedy is to mix ACV and water in equal parts and apply it to the scalp and leave it on for 15 minutes before showering; you can gradually increase the duration to half an hour. Treat your hair with this remedy three times a week and avoid using it for two days in a row.

Baking soda
Another superhero from our pantry – baking soda! It gently exfoliates the scalp and reduces the build-up of flakes, and the antifungal properties minimize the itching and redness on the scalp. You can either use it on wet hair or mix it with your shampoo to give your scalp a good wash.

Tea-tree oil
Tea-tree oil boasts of its antifungal and antibacterial properties and is hence found as an ingredient in many medications used to treat acne and other problems. Add 2-3 drops of tea tree oil to your shampoo, and you’ll see results after a few washes. Bonus – you get to enjoy the divine fragrance and freshness of tea tree oil even after hair wash.

Aspirin
Aspirin doesn’t only come in handy when you want the blooms looking fresh for longer but effectively aids in fighting dandruff too. Use two aspirins in powdered form and mix it with your shampoo to get desired results after repeated washes.

Lemon
You can directly use lemon juice on the scalp but choose to dilute it if you’re using it on your hair for the very first time. Massage the mixture into your scalp, and on days you’re short of time, use it as the last rinse. Lemon balances the pH of the hair that helps fight dandruff and adds more sheen to it.

Aloe vera gel
Aloe vera gel has a soothing effect on an itchy scalp and significantly reduces the redness too. For effective results, ensure you use organic gel since the amino acids and antioxidants help treat dandruff. The commercial gel comes with many preservatives and chemicals that could actually do more harm than good. In this case or in case of any skin problem, resort to using fresh aloe from your home garden. You can apply the gel straight to your scalp half an hour before the shower, and you’ll see the desired results after a few washes.
